Perth Theatre Company has been producing award-winning, professional theatre in Western Australia since 1983. Originally known as SWY Theatre, in 1994 the Company changed its name to Perth Theatre Company and became a resident at the Playhouse Theatre.

In late 2008, Melissa Cantwell was appointed as the Artistic Director of Perth Theatre Company, debuting her directing skills in this role with Sir Peter Shaffer’s masterpiece Equus at His Majesty’s Theatre in September 2009.

UNDER THE ARTISTIC DIRECTORSHIP OF MELISSA CANTWELL, PERTH THEATRE COMPANY IS PROUD TO DEVELOP NEW WEST AUSTRALIAN THEATRE, PROVIDE NEW OPPORTUNITIES FOR LOCAL ARTISTS, AS WELL AS ENGAGING IN GROUND-BREAKING WORKS THAT ENCOURAGE COLLABORATION AND PROVIDE UNFORGETTABLE EXPERIENCES FOR ITS AUDIENCES.

In December 2010, Perth Theatre Company assumed residency at the new State Theatre Centre of Western Australia, where it will present world class contemporary theatre in the state of the art ‘black box’ performance space, the Studio Underground.
