Description
Looking to experience a challenging walk with stunning scenic views? The Pierces Pass to Blue Gum Forest walking track, situated in the Blue Mountains, is the perfect trail for you.
The journey commences with a steep climb down a spur into the valley, but the breathtaking views of the Grose Valley at the northern end make it worth the effort. While descending, it is recommended that you take a moment to appreciate the famous fresh air of the Blue Mountains before proceeding.
As you follow the track, you will pass through dense rainforest areas and open spaces with extensive vegetation, including towering sassafras and coachwood, with epiphytes and orchids attached to the trunks. You might even spot a wedge-tailed eagle circling overhead or colorful crimson rosellas. A visit to the Fairy Grotto and the lush vegetation is an experience in itself as it offers stunning views.
Upon reaching Blue Gum Forest, which is situated after crossing the Grose River, the forest canopy thickens, providing a refreshing atmosphere where you can take a break and enjoy a picnic under the towering blue gums. Alternatively, if you're feeling adventurous, you can take a short walk to the Acacia Flat campground, located near the Blue Gum Forest, where you can enjoy a night of camping.
The walking trail is open to visitors throughout the year, but it is only recommended for experienced and fit hikers as the track is challenging. It is best to avoid visiting the area during the summer months due to high temperatures and bushfire risks.
The walking track is located in the Blue Mountains and can be accessed through the Mount Tomah area. Visitors can drive to the location and park their vehicles in the car park, which is accessible through Bells Line of Road
