Welcome to Pinjar
Pinjar is a sparsely populated agricultural suburb, most of which is pine plantation and wetland. The suburb is bounded by Pinjar Road/Old Yanchep Road to the west and Neaves Road to the south.
The Pinjar and Neerabup areas are home to motor sports in the Perth northern area. Pinjar houses the Wanneroo Raceway road racing circuit and Pinjar Park Speedway, with the Wanneroo senior and junior motocross circuits located close by in Neerabup.
The Wanneroo Raceway, which opened in 1969, hosts an annual round of the V8 Supercars championship. Pinjar Park Speedway, which opened in 2005, regularly hosts national and international meetings and caters to both senior and junior solo and sidecar racing.
Inside my neighbourhood
Pinjar is part of the City of Wanneroo local government area and sits within the City’s Transitional Rural Place Management Area.
Very few people live in Pindar, with only 78 people recorded the when the census was carried out there in 2006. Just over 1,000 people live in the combined Carabooda, Neerabup, Nowergup and Pinjar suburbs, which are expected to grow to 5,000 people over the next 20 years).
Origin of name and history
Pinjar is named after the large swampy lake of this name located north east of Wanneroo.
The lake name is shown on government plans from 1868, and the name is of Aboriginal origin. The meaning of Pinjar is unknown, but it could be "tadpole" or "swampy lake".
The area is predominately large acreages with bushland including jarrah and tuart trees, with banksia and native wisteria providing habitat for native animals.
