Description
The Point Smythe Nature Trail is a 6 km long loop trail located in Venus Bay, Victoria.
It is an easy route that takes around 1 hour and 22 minutes to complete. The trail is open year-round and is popular for birding, hiking, and mountain biking. It remains sheltered even on windy days, making it enjoyable to walk.
The trail follows a sheltered path through coastal vegetation, billabongs, and a tunnel of tea trees. It leads to the beach at Point Smythe, offering nice views. The trail is well-maintained with a compacted gravel undulating surface. You can extend your walk by continuing along the beach, but be prepared for strong winds.
On this trail, you can see a variety of birds in the coastal vegetation, billabongs, and at Point Smythe beach. The weather is mild and comfortable for a walk during these seasons.
To get to the trail, take a right-hand turn into Canterbury Road when entering Venus Bay from Melbourne. This road turns into Lees Road, and the trail begins at the end of Lees Road.
The trail is 6 km long and takes approximately 2 hours (return) to complete. It has a compacted gravel track with an undulating surface. Dogs are restricted from this walk due to regular fox baiting.
