Princess Royal Harbour

Located on the southern coast of Western Australia, Princess Royal Harbour is a historic gem that serves as the harbour for the city of Albany.

The harbour was first explored by George Vancouver in 1791 and named after Princess Charlotte Augusta Matilda. Over the years, it has been surveyed by various explorers and underwent dredging to improve its depth. In 1914, it was the departure point for a large convoy of Australian troops. The entrance to the harbour was officially named Ataturk Channel in 1985. Princess Royal Harbour boasts exceptional water quality and is home to a thriving seagrass meadow of Posidonia, adding to its ecological diversity.
