Location and Climate
Situated in a unique location between the Pacific Ocean to the east and the Rodney Ranges to the west, the microclimate of the vineyard has reasonably low rainfall, free draining iron-rich clay soils, and high sunshine hours per year. This allows the vineyard to grow 45% Cabernet Franc, 45% Merlot, 10% Malbec, and a small amount of Syrah vines.
Winemaking Process
The vineyard maintenance is done the old-fashioned way by delicate and caring hands, and grapes go from being picked to bottled with minimal intervention. Providence Syrah has become a cult classic due to its increasing overseas support. The vineyard has won several awards, including the Private Reserve, which won against first-class European competitors in blind tasting sessions. The vineyard is considered the best red wine from New Zealand.
