This home was designed by Pure Base Living for the owners of Calab Steel, who also carried out its construction on a sloping, 798sqm block in Balcatta.
The owners requested a family home with an undercroft garage, plenty of storage and large, open-plan living areas that were easily accessible from one another.
The initial part of the design process involved working closely with the owners to establish a greater understanding of their lifestyle. Following this, the Pure Base Living team mapped out the best way to incorporate the family’s requests, taking into account the 3m slope upwards from the front of the property to the rear boundary.
A main staircase leads from the home’s front entrance, which also accesses the three-car undercroft garage and wine cellar, providing both convenience and a grand entry statement.
The ground level consists of a guest suite, bathroom and home office, while the first floor features the home’s main living spaces. The open-plan kitchen has a scullery, which can be accessed through a private door from the alfresco area and is perfect for chefs, toiling away at the outdoor pizza oven.
Visible through stacker doors from the alfresco area is the impressive theatre room – complete with a wine bar and cinema seating, it offers a quiet place to retreat to.
This level also features a children’s wing, consisting of two bedrooms with private access to a semi-bathroom plus an activity area, as well as the master bedroom and ensuite.
By gaining a detailed understanding of the family’s way of life, Pure Base Living created a practical yet aesthetically pleasing design, which will allow the family to grow with it.
