Description

Pyrmont Bridge is a heritage-listed swing bridge located in Darling Harbour, Sydney.

It serves as a vital connection between the city and the inner west. The first Pyrmont Bridge was built in 1858 and was replaced by a steel bridge in 1902. The bridge is 369 meters long and consists of 14 spans, with the central spans made of steel and the rest made of Australian ironbark timber. It is powered by two electric motors and takes approximately 60 seconds to open completely. Pyrmont Bridge was listed on the New South Wales State Heritage Register in 2002 for its historical and cultural significance. It was almost demolished in 1981 but was later restored and incorporated into the redevelopment of Darling Harbour. The bridge is recognized as a National Engineering Landmark and continues to be a popular tourist attraction in Sydney.
