Description
BRIEF | To create a physical and virtual hub for the
knowledge economy in Qatar that is unique to its
location and of global stature. The design needed to
resonate with local communities and attract international
partners as a global best-practice research and
development facility.
Qatar’s Science and Technology Park (QSTP) is a key initiative of the Qatar Foundation, set to establish Qatar as a knowledge economy in the Middle East.
Working alongside Qatar Petroleum Project and Construction Management, Woods Bagot has created a masterplan that encompasses 123ha of land, which is integrated with the facilities of the Qatar Foundation, its new teaching hospital and the new convention centre.
The design included a series of key features, such as reflecting a global research-and development best-practice facility, flexibility to configure laboratory floors, optimise the future and be adaptable to changing research needs, and incorporate atria spaces for informal meetings.
