Description
Ramsgate Beach is a suburb located in the Bayside Council, 16 kilometers south of the Sydney central business district, and part of the St George area.
The beach is less busy than some of the nearby beaches, making it a good spot for sunbathing or swimming. The area between the Cooks River and Georges River was originally known as Seven Mile Beach, and it was changed to Lady Robinson's Beach in 1874 to honor Governor Sir Hercules Robinson's wife. Cook Park is named after Samuel Cook, who advocated it as a public pleasure area. Ramsgate was named after the seaside resort in England.
Ramsgate Beach is a lovely beach, and it is part of that long white stretch of sand from Brighton around to Dolls Point. The beach is a great place to swim, picnic, and relax. There are public BBQ areas near Ramsgate Beach, which are free to use. The facilities which the community will temporarily lose include a playground with equipment, a skate park, a recreational oval, and three soccer fields. Parking can be difficult at peak times. The suburb has a population of 1,660 according to the 2016 census. The elevation of Ramsgate Beach is 6 meters (20 ft). The postcode for the area is 2217, and the state electorate is Rockdale, while the federal division is Cook.
