Red Hands Cave Walking Track - Blue Mountains National Park

Red Hands Cave Walking Track is a culturally significant trail in Blue Mountains National Park Glenbrook.

It leads to one of the best Aboriginal stencil galleries in the Sydney Basin and has been used by the Darug people for thousands of years. The track is easy to medium graded and winds through remote bushland.

Visitors can explore Campfire Creek along the way, where axe grinding grooves can be seen on the water's edge. There is also a chance to spot eastern water dragons sunning themselves. The track steadily climbs through the gully, offering views of unspoiled bushland.

At the end of the track, visitors will reach Red Hands Cave, a sandstone overhang with impressive Aboriginal stencil art. This is considered one of the best stencil galleries in the Sydney Basin. Picnic areas are available, and visitors can retrace their steps or continue with the longer loop walk.

The Red Hands Cave Walking Track is accessible year-round, but it is recommended to visit between March and October when the weather is cooler. It is also important to check the weather forecast, as the track can become slippery after heavy rainfall.

To get to the starting point of the track, head to the Glenbrook Causeway off Bruce Road. Glenbrook is only an hour's drive from Sydney, making it convenient for a day trip. If you don't have your own transport, you can take the train to Glenbrook Station or a bus to Glenbrook Village and walk to the Glenbrook Causeway.
