Description

Sale Common Wetlands Sale is a 300-hectare state game refuge located on the South Gippsland Highway, just south of the city of Sale.

Seventy percent of the area is freshwater marshlands, while the remaining 30% is covered by red gum woodlands and grasslands.

Visitors can enjoy a variety of activities in Sale Common. From the car park on the South Gippsland Highway, a short walking track leads through woodlands and grasslands past the information shelter to the lookout. The lookout provides stunning views of the northern section of the Common, allowing visitors to observe the wetland from a higher vantage point.

For those wanting a more extended experience, the Flooding Creek Track (7.2 kilometers, 2.4 hours return) offers the ideal opportunity to explore the area. This narrow, winding track goes through Red Gum woodlands and ends near the Latrobe River. Visitors can immerse themselves in the stunning views of the morass while observing the various habitats and wildlife that call the wetlands home.

One key feature of the Sale Common Wetlands is the extensive boardwalk that runs through a variety of habitats. The boardwalk starts from the edge of the swamp, winds its way through deeper water, past islands, and through a small reed bed. Visitors can observe the wetland up close and witness the diverse plant and animal life that exists in the area.
