Woodhead ensured that the design for Shell Development (Australia) fulfilled the criteria for a minimum 4-star Green Star rating. The new 5500sqm corporate offices over three levels represents the first Australian fitout completed for Shell, which complies with the recently developed global planning and branding strategy.
This high quality, high performance workplace needed to respond to both local and global business concerns, and provide a recognised concept that was aligned to their brand values. Woodhead designed to a 4-star Green Star rating to comply with Shell guidelines, and to provide a workplace with maximum flexibility and support spaces. To achieve this, recycled or recyclable materials were used throughout, along with a planning solution enabling maximum natural light to penetrate within.
Woodhead’s Perth principal and project director, Jacqui Preshaw, said that this was the driving force behind all of their selections and design philosophy.
Materials were selected for their contribution to the Green Star rating tool. These included recycled timber for the reception floor, and the use of EO board throughout, low VOC paints, furniture and workstation systems. To support the functional requirement of regular planning meetings and workshops, entire walls and operable wall panels were clad with Zenolite, an environmentally friendly product that functions as a whiteboard.
Eco Panel was used to assist with acoustic absorption and provide pinnable surfaces in meeting rooms and quiet rooms.
Woodhead would like to thank CBRE Global Corporate Solutions, Norman Disney Young, and Turner & Townsend for their contribution to the successful completion of this project.
