Description
Shelly Beach Picnic Area is a beautiful spot located in Moruya Heads, at the entrance of the Moruya River.
Situated on the eastern end of the beach, it offers stunning views of Shelly Beach and is well-protected due to its northward location. The picnic area provides facilities such as a car park, toilets, and other amenities.
Visitors can enjoy the beach and its waves, which range from 0.5-1m and are safe for swimming close to the shore. There are also opportunities for surfing near the entrance walls, where tidal shoals create a left wave.
The beach is open year-round, but the low tide terrace is more prominent during low tide. It tends to be most crowded during the peak season between December and January.
To reach the Shelly Beach Picnic Area, visitors can use the walkway located at the eastern end of the car park. This pathway leads to a large viewing platform that offers breathtaking views of the beach. For those traveling by car, Moruya Heads can be reached via the coastal drive from the north (Sydney) or south (Melbourne) along Princes Highway. The nearest airport is Moruya Airport, which is 7 kilometers away. From there, travelers can hire cars or taxis to reach the picnic area.
