Description
Shepherds Hill Recreation Park is a stunning protected area located just 9 kilometres (5.6 miles) south of Adelaide's city centre.
It spans a significant parcel of land previously known as St Marys Reserve, which was acquired by the Government of South Australia in 1953. Managed by the South Australian Government Tourist Bureau from 1955 to 1972, the park was formally proclaimed under the National Parks and Wildlife Act 1972. It is classified as an IUCN Category III protected area, providing protection for diverse wildlife species and thriving ecosystems.
The park is a haven for keen hikers and birdwatchers, offering a network of trails to explore and breathtaking views to enjoy. Visitors frequently spot kangaroos, koalas, and echidnas among the flourishing trees.
