Description
Shoalwater Islands Marine Park features a necklace of limestone reefs and islands offshore and a string of sandy beaches on the mainland from Cape Peron to Port Kennedy.
The islands within the park have restricted access to the public to help preserve their animal and plant life while the mainland beaches are freely accessible and are very popular for swimming and walking.
Kayaking around the sheltered waters is a great way to explore park while shallow bays and beaches make the park an ideal place for snorkelling and swimming. Kite-surfing is also popular.
Tour operators run kayaking tours and wildlife observation cruises in the area.
Fishing is permitted in much of the park. Fishers should check the zoning maps to determine the types of fishing permitted in specific locations.
