Shorncliffe Pier

Located in the northside suburb of Shorncliffe, Brisbane, Queensland, Australia, Shorncliffe Pier is a popular landmark among families, residents, and tourists.

It is the largest timber pier in Brisbane and one of the longest recreational piers in Australia, stretching 351.5 meters out into Bramble Bay. The pier offers an iconic view of the Redcliffe peninsula, Boondall Wetlands, Moreton Bay Islands, and the Shorncliffe cliffs.

The history of Shorncliffe Pier dates back to the late 1800s when plans were made to construct a pier to attract tourists. The pier was built in 1884 and extended in 1928 to accommodate ferry boats. In the 1950s, it was used by Queensland's first female-only life-saving club. The pier underwent restoration and renovations in 2000 and 2008 to enhance its touristic appeal.

In 2012, the pier was closed due to damage caused by marine borers. The Brisbane City Council announced its renewal in 2012, and the design was released in 2013. The renewed pier was built with the same alignment, length, and width as the original, with additional features such as fish cleaning stations, benches, water fountains, and light poles. The renewal works began in 2014, and the pier reopened in 2016.
