Welcome to Sinagra
Sinagra is bounded by Wanneroo Road to the west, Pinjar Road and Caporn Street to the north, Franklin Road to the east and Elliot Road to the south.
Inside my neighbourhood
Sinagra is part of the City of Wanneroo local government area and sits within the City’s Established Central Place Management Area. It’s a growing suburb with a population now of over 2,500 people.
Ingham’s Poultry Farm covers a majority of the Sinagra area, operating a feedmill, hatchery and chicken growing sheds. Planning approvals to operate the business began in 1973 with Stockland purchasing the site in 2017 and leasing it to Ingham’s with a view to developing the site for future residential.
Origin of name and history
Sinagra, which was formerly part of Wanneroo, is named after the Sinagra family, migrants from Italy who arrived in the Wanneroo area in the 1920's.
Vincenzo (known as Jim) Sinagra came to Wanneroo in 1923, from Sinagra, Italy. On arrival, he purchased land to establish a market garden, entering into partnership with Antonio Crisafulli.
In 1946, Jim purchased land at the corner of Wanneroo and Pinjar Roads where he market gardened, planted grapevines and olive trees, and expanded into raising cattle. Producing their own wine, the Sinagra family were the owners of the first olive press in Wanneroo.
Jim’s son Salvatore (known as Sam) owned a shop in Wanneroo and he and his family too were prominent citizens.
The City of Wanneroo established a sister city relationship with Sinagra, Sicily in 1985 as a large number of families migrated from there to make a new home in Wanneroo.
The suburb name was approved on 1 December 1994.
