Description

Sleaford Bay is a picturesque bay located 21 kilometres (13 mi) south-west of Port Lincoln, South Australia.

It is situated on the southern coast of the Eyre Peninsula, bordered by Cape Wiles on the west and Cape Tournefort on the east. The bay includes Fishery Bay, a charming subsidiary bay located about 2 nautical miles (3.7 km; 2.3 mi) north of Cape Wiles.

The bay was discovered by British navigator Matthew Flinders in 1802 and named after the town of Sleaford in Lincolnshire, England. It has been known by different names, including Dhanana by the Barngarla people and Anse des Nerlans by the Baudin expedition. A whaling station operated on the coastline of Fishery Bay from 1839 to 1841.

Sleaford Bay is flanked by two localities, Sleaford to the west and Lincoln National Park to the east. Fishing enthusiasts can utilize the boat ramp in Fishery Bay for easy access to the waters.

The entire area of Sleaford Bay is covered by the Thorny Passage Marine Park. The eastern end of the bay falls within the boundaries of Lincoln National Park.
