Description
Located off the eastern side of Moreton Island, Smith Rock Dive Site is a noteworthy spot for divers of all skill levels.
The jagged rocky outcrop at this dive site has claimed three ships over the years making it one of the most notorious reefs off Brisbane. Though, the site is often overlooked as it is a tricky spot to anchor on.
Divers at Smith Rock can explore caves, gutters and ledges in depths from 3 metres to 20 metres. These features are adorned with soft corals, gorgonians, tubastra corals and hard corals, providing a wealth of colors and textures for divers to admire. The site is home to painted crayfish, which are particularly common in the ledges here.
Smith Rock Dive Site is available for diving all year round, with water temperatures ranging from 19°C to 24°C.
The Smith Rock Dive Site is 98 km away from Brisbane, by road and sea. Visitors can drive from Brisbane to the Ferry Terminal at Holt Street, Pinkenba.
