Snelling Beach

Located on the northwest coast of the island, Snellings Beach Middle River is the most visible and most popular beach.

It boasts spectacular views and great amenities that make it a must-visit for both tourists and locals.

The North Coast Road runs right past the western end of Snellings Beach Middle River, providing easy access to the beach. Visitors can park their cars right off the road, near the beach access point. There is ample parking available, and even during the peak season, finding a spot should not be an issue.

Stretching over 660 m long, this picturesque beach has northwest facing waters that receive consistent waves averaging over 1 m in height. A prevalent surf zone extends over 100 m wide and is dominated by four beach rips and permanent rips against the rocks at each end. It is important to be cautious while swimming as the rip intensity increases towards the western end of the beach. The beach is popular for surfing, but inexperienced swimmers should avoid this area.

A 10 m high foredune backs the beach, providing shelter from the wind and offering an excellent spot for picnics or a quick bite to eat. The Middle River meanders through the backing floodplain and exits across the northern end of the beach. It's a fascinating spot for a nature walk where visitors can spot birds, reptiles, and other wildlife.

The climate on the island remains temperate throughout the year, making it perfect for a visit to Snellings Beach Middle River, anytime. The busiest time of year is during the summer months (December-January), and it’s essential to arrive early to secure a spot newline.
