Description
The most westerly point of mainland Australia
When anchored off the southern tip of Dirk Hartog Island in 1697, the Dutch seafarer Willem de Vlamingh named this point Steyle Hock, translated as Steep Point. Today this is part of pilgrimages to visit all of the extreme cardinal points on the Australian mainland.
The campsites at The Oven and Faultline are popular with hardcore anglers. Campsites are on rock and must be booked online.
Exercise extreme caution near cliff edges especially when fishing. Supervise children at all times. This information was provided by the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions: dpaw.wa.gov.au
