Stirling Range National Park

Stirling Range National Park, located in Western Australia's Great Southern region, is a natural wonder spanning over 65 km wide.

It is home to the Stirling Ranges, which offer breathtaking views of mountains and hills, including the highest peak in the southwestern region, Bluff Knoll, and a captivating silhouette known as The Sleeping Princess.

Visitors to Stirling Range National Park can engage in various recreational activities such as bushwalking, abseiling, and gliding. Camping is permitted in the Moingup campsite, and there are additional peaks to explore, including Mt Trio, Talyuberlup Peak, and Mt Magog. The Stirling Ridge walk, which covers Ellen Peak and Bluff Knoll, is a popular walking track typically done over two days.

The traditional owners of the land are the Mineng and Koreng groups of the Noongar peoples, who have lived in the area for thousands of years. The range was first sighted by Europeans in 1802, and European settlers inhabited the area in the late 1800s. The park was suggested in 1908 and gazetted as a National Park in 1913. It was listed as a National Heritage site in 2006. In 2020, a bushfire caused by lightning devastated a significant portion of the parkland, but in August 2022, visitors were pleasantly surprised by a significant amount of snow in the park.

Stirling Range National Park is not only rich in history but also of great biogeographic and evolutionary interest. It boasts one of the most diverse floras in the world and serves as a refuge for numerous species of native plants and animals in Australia.
