Description
The Stock Exchange Arcade in Charters Towers is a rare example of Queensland architecture adapted to the climate.
Designed by Mark Cooper Day, it is known for its scale and barrel-vault entrance, and was the location of the Royal Arcade from 1890 to 1916. Nowadays, the building is home to many local businesses and the National Trust of Queensland Don Roderick Art Gallery, and serves as a reminder of the fortunes made and lost on the nineteenth century goldfield.
