Summit Station

Summit Station was a railway station located at the summit of the Wairarapa Line over the Rimutaka Ranges in the Wellington region of New Zealand's North Island.

The station was used for marshalling trains for a descent down the Rimutaka Incline or for Fell locomotives to be extricated from a train that had ascended the Incline. The station was situated between Kaitoke and Cross Creek stations on the Wairarapa Line and was bypassed when the Rimutaka Tunnel was opened. The Summit Station yard originally had a crossing loop and five sidings. Platelaying was completed from four miles north of Upper Hutt to Summit between October 1877 and March 1878. The station opened on 12 October 1878 and closed on 30 October 1955.

Today, Upper Hutt is a city for fresh air and outdoor fun. Visitors can hike or bike in the hills, fish in the river, and stroll through some of the 50 parks and reserves. The Remutaka Rail Trail, a gently graded 18 km walk, run, or mountain bike ride, is a popular attraction for visitors. Built in 1878, this rail route between the Hutt Valley and Featherston offers opportunities for birdwatching, picnicking, and sightseeing.

Upper Hutt is also home to a number of businesses, including Lockheed Martin Global, Inc. and Twin Lakes Industries Limited. Visitors can find a variety of accommodations, attractions, and restaurants in the area.
