Description
Swan Bay is a 30-square-kilometre marine embayment located at the eastern end of the Bellarine Peninsula in Port Phillip, Victoria, Australia.
It is ecologically important to waterbirds and migratory waders, with salt marshes, intertidal mudflats, and vast seagrass beds. The region is home to over 200 species of birds, including the critically endangered orange-bellied parrot and various other bird species that travel from as far away as Arctic Siberia and Alaska.
Swan Bay has been recognized as an Important Bird Area by BirdLife International and is part of the Port Phillip Heads Marine National Park. It is separated from Port Phillip Bay by Swan Island, Duck Island, and Edwards Point. The bay offers various recreational activities such as sea kayaking, bird watching, scuba diving, and wildlife tours.
According to local folklore, there is a myth about a hidden treasure in a cave on the southern shoreline of Swan Bay. The legend revolves around the pirate Benito "Bloody Sword" Bonito, but this remains unverified newline.
