Description

The Nut is a towering volcanic plug located near the town of Stanley in Tasmania, Australia.

It stands 143 meters above sea level and was formed millions of years ago from fragments of basaltic volcanic rock. The surrounding areas of The Nut are culturally significant to the Tarkine Aboriginal people, with stone formations, middens, quarries, and artefact scatters present. The name "The Nut" is believed to come from the Tasmanian Aboriginal name "munatrik" or because explosives failed to dent it during the construction of a breakwater. Visitors to The Nut can enjoy a leisurely stroll up the walking track for stunning views of the coastline and countryside, or hike the 6-kilometer loop trail around the base of the Nut. It is a must-visit attraction for history buffs, nature enthusiasts, and anyone seeking a unique sightseeing experience in Tasmania.
