Description
A natural basin used by drovers from the early 1900’s for holding cattle.
From the holding area of The Pound, cattle were moved to Meekatharra. Droving to Meekatharra would take 10-12 days.
A variety of rock types can be found here. Large isolated boulders of quartz and quartzite are common in the dominant sandstone of Mount Augustus. Igneous and metamorphic rocks have been exposed where the overlying cover of sandstone and conglomerate has been eroded.
Saddle TrailThe saddle area has views back into The Pound and over the Lyons River valley to the north.
