A Historical Building Turned into a Charming Café and Restaurant
Location and History
The Public Office is a charming café and restaurant located on the main street of Ngatea, a small town in New Zealand.
The building where the café now stands has a rich history, having served as a council office, sewing factory, and classroom in the past. Today, the building has been lovingly restored and transformed into a friendly, warm, and welcoming space.
Owners and Atmosphere
The Public Office is not your typical café and restaurant. The owners, Sarah and Simon Sheehy, have created a unique space that is cozy, inviting, and a perfect spot to catch up with friends or meet new people. The café exudes a relaxed atmosphere, from the vintage furniture to the lush potted plants that create a homey ambiance.
Food and Drinks
The menu at The Public Office is extensive, with plenty of gluten-free and vegetarian options available. The café serves breakfast, brunch, lunch, and dinner and also offers a range of heavenly sweet treats and fresh-baked goods. The coffee is top-notch, and the cafe also has a small selection of craft beers, local wines, and fruit juices that are perfect for a nice drink after work.
Opening Hours and Private Functions
The Public Office is open on Wednesdays from 7am-3pm, Thursdays and Fridays from 7am-11pm, Saturdays from 8am-11pm, and Sundays from 8am-3pm. The café is also available to book for private functions for up to 30 people on other nights of the week. So if you want to host a special event, Sarah and Simon can help you put together a fantastic and memorable evening.
How to Get There and When to Visit
The Public Office is situated in the heart of Ngatea, so it is very easy to get there. If you are driving, you can park in the nearby car park or on the surrounding streets. The café is also within walking distance of most of Ngatea's attractions, including parks, shops, and more. The best time to visit The Public Office is during the day, as you can take advantage of the natural light that floods the café and gives it a warm and welcoming feel. But if you are looking for a more intimate dining experience, visit The Public Office in the evening when the light dims, and the atmosphere becomes more cozy and romantic.
