Description

The Roebuck Bay Lookout is a scenic viewing platform in the heart of Chinatown in Broome, Australia.

It offers panoramic views of Roebuck Bay and Dampier Creek, as well as a chance to learn about the area's rich history. The lookout was collaboratively designed by the Yawuru people, the traditional custodians of the site, and features artwork and interpretive information created by Yawuru Traditional Owners and Broome Senior High School.

Roebuck Bay is known for its diverse marine and plant life, as well as its large tidal range, the largest in the southern hemisphere. It has been designated as the Roebuck Bay Marine Park to protect its ecosystems and marine life. The bay is a popular spot for birdwatching, with half a million wader birds visiting seasonally from their breeding grounds in Siberia, North Asia, and the Arctic Circle. It is one of the best places in Australia to observe migratory birdlife, offering the opportunity to see large populations of different species. Roebuck Bay and Eighty Mile Beach nearby are considered two of the best bird-watching sites in the country.

While Roebuck Bay is beautiful year-round, the best time to visit is during the warmer months when the migratory birds arrive. From September to April, the lookout becomes more vibrant with a growing population of birds, and tourists flock to witness the unique beauty of Broome.

To reach the Roebuck Bay Lookout, you can walk up Frederick Street in Chinatown, Broome. The lookout is conveniently located in the heart of the commercial downtown area, close to the galleries, shops, eateries, and street markets of Chinatown.
