Description
Thirlmere Lakes National Park, situated in the temperate climate zone, experiences warm summers and cool winters. Summer temperatures range from 17 to 27 degrees Celsius (62 to 81 degrees Fahrenheit), while winter temperatures range from 7 to 17 degrees Celsius (45 to 63 degrees Fahrenheit).
The park receives its highest rainfall during summer, with an annual average of about 889mm.
Thirlmere Lakes National Park offers various activities for visitors to enjoy. These include exploring the unique landscape, bush-walking, picnicking, cycling, photography, bird watching, and fishing. Swimming is also popular, but caution should be exercised by checking for warning signs. It is recommended that visitors bring their own drinking water, as there are no drinking water facilities available in the park.
Located approximately 70 kilometres (43 mi) southwest of the Sydney central business district and to the west of Thirlmere, Thirlmere Lakes National Park is easily accessible. Visitors can reach the park by taking the Hume Motorway and following Picton Road, following the signs to the park. The park is open daily from sunrise to sunset, and entry is free of charge.
