Toonumbar National Park is a protected national park located in the Northern Rivers region of New South Wales, Australia. It covers 14,910 hectares (36,800 acres) and is part of the Focal Peak Group World Heritage Site, the Gondwana Rainforests of Australia.
The park is known for its subtropical rainforest, diverse flora and fauna, and stunning landscape dominated by Mount Lindesay, Dome Mountain, and Edinburgh Castle.
The park is home to endangered species such as the sooty owl, red-legged pademelon, and yellow-bellied glider. It also attracts a variety of wildlife including the marbled frogmouth, koala, Albert lyrebird, rainforest reptiles, and frogs. The park's lush rainforests provide a crucial refuge for fruit-eating pigeons, insectivorous bats, and pademelons.
The landscape of Toonumbar National Park is the result of volcanic activity from the Focal Peak Volcano, which was active 23 million years ago. The volcanic remains of Mount Lindesay, Dome Mountain, and Edinburgh Castle, coupled with high rainfall and fertile soil, contribute to the park's lush rainforests. The park receives an average annual rainfall of 1,035.8 millimetres (40.78 in), with the highest recorded rainfall of 449.4 millimetres (17.69 in) in a single day.
