Description
Tower Hill Wildlife Reserve is a 614-hectare protected area in Victoria, Australia.
It incorporates the extinct Tower Hill volcano and wetland and was established as a national park in 1892. The reserve underwent a revegetation program in 1961, reintroducing native vegetation and wildlife. It is now managed by Worn Gundidj Aboriginal Cooperative in partnership with Parks Victoria. The reserve is known for its ancient artifacts, as Aboriginal people resided in the area when the volcano erupted. The Tower Hill Visitor Centre, designed by architect Robin Boyd, offers guided tours and information on the area's geology, flora, fauna, and cultural heritage. Despite shooting being permitted during duck hunting season, visitor numbers have doubled in recent years. There is discussion about changing the reserve's status to a national park, which would bring more restrictions and potential grants. Tower Hill Wildlife Reserve is a must-visit location for nature lovers, providing a unique experience with ancient artifacts and endangered species.
