Trawool Valley

Welcome to Trawool Valley, a picturesque region in central Victoria, Australia.

The area has a rich history, from its exploration by Hume and Hovell in 1824 to its establishment as a large sheep station. Originally named Traawool, the district has been dominated by agriculture and scenery.

In 1867, Michael "Patrick" Burns selected land that was once part of the Tallarook Run. The Burns family played an essential role in the Trawool community, lobbying for a school and donating the land. The Trawool Valley Resort, a listed National Trust Heritage site, is recognized for its scenic, geological, and cultural significance. The resort underwent extensive refurbishment and reopened in late 2019 as The Trawool Estate, offering accommodation, dining, and event venues.

The Trawool Hotel is another historical highlight, established at a river crossing site where a punt was once used. The Trawool railway station was built in 1883, and a granite quarry was established in the region in the early 1890s. During World War II, Australian and American troops were stationed at Trawool.
