Description
The owner had requested for something ‘different’ for his landscape design. Due to location, the plants had to be suited to harsh coastal conditions, whilst still complimenting the modern architectural, custom designed house.
The gardens were to be low maintenance and water-efficient, keeping in consideration that no plants were to obstruct ocean views.
The only access to the second story deck was up the front steps, which made it extremely difficult to transport advanced plants and planters into the various areas including a 300ltr Frangipani tree.
The simple, repetitious plantings of bamboo in slate troughs are interspersed with rusty metal panels. Once again the wall colour, flooring and containers all provide a sense of unity. The extra design detail is the lighting set flush between the planters, which illuminates the rusty panel and creates a great feature at night.
Native grasses Lomandra are mass planted in front garden bed which contrasts against the dark grey wall to compliment the house.
Dragon trees in large planters border ocean views from the second story deck.
The style of the garden was to suit the contemporary custom designed home. The extensive hardscape design minimizes upkeep while creating a functional outdoor living area. Plant life is integrated in several different ways, including a variety of potted feature plants for small outdoor spaces.
