Tumut Wetlands

Tumut Wetlands Tumut is a natural oasis located in the southwest of New South Wales.

Spanning over approximately 20 hectares, it features lagoons filled with native flora, Giant River Red Gum forests, and the flowing Tumut River. The wetlands are home to over 70 bird species, making it a popular spot for bird watching enthusiasts. Visitors can also explore the wetland and adjacent forests through walking trails or by canoe to observe the wildlife. The best time to visit is during spring and autumn when the weather is mild and the bird population is abundant. To get there, drive along Snowy Mountains Hwy towards Gundagai St and turn onto Bundara Cres. The wetlands also hold cultural significance, having been used by human communities for centuries. Visitors can explore the area and learn about its cultural history, marked by rock formations, art, and sacred sites.
