Description
Waiau Falls is a beautiful waterfall located in the Coromandel region of New Zealand.
The falls are easily accessible from the 309 Road, which is approximately 3 km south of Coromandel Town. The falls are around 7 meters high and dump into a pool that is perfect for swimming. The walk to the falls from the roadside car park is quite short, only 2-3 minutes.
The falls are surrounded by beautiful native bush, and the kauri giants stand majestically above the forest tops. A short walk takes you to the base of these magnificent specimens of the ancient kauri forest that once cloaked these hills. The Waiau Falls can be viewed from the roadside, and there is a parking space on the left side of the road where the track to the falls starts. The falls are a popular swimming hole, and visitors are encouraged to bring a towel and enjoy a quick dip in the refreshing water. There is access by track both upstream and downstream of the falls, and it's a great spot for a swim. The falls are also accompanied by the Kauri Grove, which is a mature kauri forest that is worth viewing.
