Description

Wannon Falls is a breathtaking waterfall in Victoria, located approximately 19 kilometres (12 mi) west of Hamilton in the Southern Grampians Shire.

Fed by the Wannon River, which originates in the Grampians mountains, the falls create a stunning display of nature at its best as they plunge over a basalt lava cliff into a large plunge pool.

The location of Wannon Falls is unexpected, as the drive to reach it takes you westward across gently undulating lava plains. In the winter wet season, the falls are a sight to behold, offering a spectacular view. Downstream of the falls, a narrow steep-walled valley awaits, with cascades flowing around large rocks that have fallen in from the sides. This narrow valley formed as the falls retreated upstream due to the soft bed of sediments underlying hard basalt.

Adjacent to Wannon Falls is a recreational reserve that provides picnic areas and interpretation signs. Here, visitors can take a leisurely break, sit by the falls, and witness the grandeur of the place. The scenic reserve is larger and offers natural native vegetation, with some disturbed areas that have been replanted with natives.

Wannon Falls is the perfect destination to appreciate the beauty of nature and experience the natural wonders often missed in bustling cities. When visiting Victoria, Australia, be sure to include Wannon Falls in your travel itinerary.
