Description
Warrego River Walk Charleville is a popular attraction located in Charleville, the most northernmost tributary of the Darling River.
The walkway, designed by the local Indigenous Bidjara people, is called 'Wadyanana,' meaning 'I'll be walking around somewhere else when he comes.'
Visitors to the Warrego River Walk can take a scenic walk, explore the area's natural beauty, and learn about the local flora and fauna. The pathway features signs detailing the area's Indigenous history, including Mundagudda, the Rainbow Serpent. Birdwatching is a popular activity, with an abundance of birdlife visible during the early morning or later afternoons. The walk also offers views of the new and old bridges spanning the river, and picnic tables are available for visitors to enjoy a packed lunch or snack. The area is wheelchair-friendly and allows dogs on a leash.
For fishing enthusiasts, the Warrego River is an angler's paradise. The river is home to silver perch, yellow bellow, and Murray cod, with fingerlings introduced by the Charleville Fishing Club each year.
The walk is easily accessible from Charleville's town centre, with a designated car park available for visitors.
