Description

Waterhole Creek Cultural Trail in Morwell is a fantastic walking trail that boasts not only picturesque natural beauty but a rich history of Aboriginal culture.

The trail stretches over 5km and includes the Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Trail, the historic Doll's House, and various fascinating examples of community life.

One of the trail's most significant features is the 5km-long Aboriginal artwork, created by Morwell indigenous Gunaikurnai artist Ronald Edwards-Pepper. The artwork's message is 'Gnokan Danna Murra Kor-Ki,' which translates to 'Give me your hand my friend.' The trail leads visitors through remnant riparian vegetation, where you can see an abundance of common reed and various other native aquatic plant species along the creek. You can also behold patches of mature indigenous vegetation, such as the Black Wattle, Spiny-headed Mat Rush, and Kangaroo Apple.

Another must-see feature of the Waterhole Creek Cultural Trail is the historic Doll's House, which offers insights into family life in the early 1900s. You can also witness examples of community life along the trail. A bush-tucker garden is located along the trail, which is becoming established along the way, adding a unique natural experience for visitors.

The Waterhole Creek Cultural Trail is accessible via several entry points. The Gippsland Heritage Walk, located in the Gippsland Immigration Park beside Kernot Lake on Princes Way, is one entry point. Another access point is via Brisbane Street behind the Morwell Traffic School, from which visitors can start at the Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Trail and follow the 5km loop track north. The best time to visit Waterhole Creek Cultural Trail is during the spring and autumn months
