Description
The Watervale to Mount Horrocks Short Walk is a scenic, moderate-grade trail located in the Watervale region of Clare Valley, South Australia.
It is popular among tourists and locals alike, offering a refreshing escape into the countryside with breathtaking views of the region.
Starting from Watervale historic township, the trail takes you through the classic Clare Valley countryside of vineyards and cellar doors. The Lavender Federation Trail comprises the most significant portion of the trail, leading to the Mt Horrocks lookout. The lookout offers a 360-degree view of the region, which is one of the best in the Clare Valley. Though the trail does not take you up Mt Horrocks itself, the stunning view from the top of the lookout does not disappoint.
The Short Walk that follows Council roads is accessible all year round.
To get to the trailhead, travel from Adelaide and head north for about two hours along the A1 freeway. Then, take the Horrocks Highway exit towards Clare. From Clare, drive for about fifteen minutes until you reach Watervale. The trailhead is located in the town center, making it easy to find.
After completing the walk, you can stopover at the beautifully renovated Watervale Hotel for an epicurean experience or visit the Watervale General Store for a cup of coffee and a light snack.
