Description
Wattle Park is a 137-acre public park located in the Melbourne suburb of Burwood, offering plenty of open space for recreation.
It features two children's playgrounds, BBQs, tables, and chairs, as well as a large sports oval and a nine-hole public golf course with a cafe. The park also has walking tracks, public tennis courts, and two heritage 'W' class trams that provide shelter. The Wattle Park Chalet, a beautiful Tudor-style building, serves as a tea house, cafe, and venue for weddings and functions. The park is recognized as a heritage place and is home to the Lone Pine tree, a significant ANZAC memorial. Wattle Park's biodiversity includes various species of butterflies, beetles, frogs, possums, bats, and a diverse range of birdlife. The park has a rich history, dating back to its purchase by the Hawthorn Tramway Trust and subsequent development in the 1920s and 30s. It maintains a connection with Melbourne's tramways, with the Melbourne Tramways Band performing regularly and tram route 70 running along its northern border.
