Description
Weano Gorge is a popular travel destination located in Karijini National Park, Western Australia.
One of the main attractions in the gorge is Handrail Pool, which can be reached via a 1.5 km return hike that takes around 2 hours to complete. The trail starts off easy but becomes difficult towards the end, requiring scrambling and wading through water. It is important to wear appropriate footwear and note that this trail is not recommended for inexperienced hikers.
Handrail Pool is a unique and spectacular water hole surrounded by a blend of yellow and red stones. Although not easily accessible, visitors will be rewarded with a surreal adventure. Swimming in the very cold water of Handrail Pool is possible. Visitors should come prepared with plenty of water, sunscreen, and suitable footwear.
The best time to visit Weano Gorge and Handrail Pool is during the dry season, which runs from April to October. During this time, the weather is mild and the water levels are lower, making it easier to navigate the trails and access the pools. It is not recommended to visit during the wet season, from November to March, due to the possibility of flash flooding.
To reach Weano Gorge in Karijini National Park, visitors can fly into Perth or Paraburdoo and then drive a hire car for approximately five hours to reach the national park. From the parking area, it's a short walk to the beginning of the trail leading to Handrail Pool.
