Description
Wellington Osawano Japanese Gardens is a beautifully manicured garden located eight kilometres southeast of Wellington on the Mitchell Highway.
It was constructed between February and November 1999 with funding from Osawano Town Council and designed by Wellington Council. The gardens offer a peaceful walk through traditional Japanese elements such as water, stone, lanterns, bridges, plants, and carp. It features a man-made mountain, cascading stream, and reflection lake.
Within the gardens, there are 1,500 individual plant specimens of 126 different species. The garden is designed to showcase spring cherry blossoms, autumn leaf colors, and provide shade during the summer months. It is a blend of exotic and Australian plants. Visitors can also spot carp in the water and occasional birds.
The Wellington Osawano Japanese Gardens can be booked for functions and weddings, providing a stunning backdrop for special occasions. The gardens can be visited throughout the year, but the best times are during spring and autumn when the colors are most vibrant.
To reach the gardens, one can drive along the Mitchell Highway. It is approximately eight kilometers southeast of Wellington newline.
