Wellington Point Recreation Reserve

Wellington Point Recreation Reserve is a beautiful seaside area in the Redlands area of Queensland, Australia.

It is located approximately 22 km southeast of Brisbane, Queensland's capital city. The region has a population of around 12,350 people, and is adjacent to Birkdale and Ormiston. This locality is named after its prominent headland, Wellington Point, which reaches into Moreton Bay. In fact, the headland and adjacent waters are used extensively for all sorts of water sports like swimming, fishing, and boating. The area is a popular day-trip destination, retaining a seaside and village atmosphere, offering visitors a relaxed atmosphere with lovely views of the ocean.

At low tide, King Island emerges and can be accessed via a sand causeway. You can walk along the sandy walkway, a popular route for families and tourists to enjoy. The causeway to King Island is a popular spot for fishing too.

Wellington Point has a rich historical background, which includes the Quandamooka people who inhabited the island long before the arrival of the white settlers. Wellington Point has several heritage-listed sites such as Wellington Point Reserve and Whepstead. Wellington Point Reserve, opened in the 1880s, has remained of great significant value to the region. Although the Brisbane-Cleveland railway line through Wellington Point was opened in 1889 and closed in 1960, it was reopened in 1988. The historic Fernbourne House was destroyed by fire in September 2012.
