Werribee Gorge State Park

Werribee Gorge State Park is a natural marvel located in Victoria, Australia.

It's known for its stunning views and geological features, with the main attraction being the Werribee Gorge, which is approximately 200m deep and carved by the Werribee River.

The Werribee Gorge is a geological wonder that has attracted the attention of geologists. It is one of the earliest known ancient glacial deposits and was formed a million years ago due to movements along a fault in the Earth's crust. Over time, the river has eroded the underlying rock, revealing ancient sediments deposited over 400 million years ago. Other geological events such as the advance and retreat of an ice sheet and volcanic lava inflow have also shaped the gorge.

Bushwalkers and rock climbers are drawn to Werribee Gorge to experience its stunning views and learn about the Earth's geological history. The park features a 10km walking trail through the gorge, which is popular with locals and tourists who enjoy bushwalking. It offers an opportunity to appreciate the natural beauty of the area, observe seasonal wildflowers, and spot wildlife. Caution is advised on parts of the trail that have challenging obstacles and steep inclines.

To reach Werribee Gorge State Park, there are two routes available. The first route is via the Western Freeway and the Pentland Hills Road to Myers Road, which provides access to the Gorge. The second approach is via Ironbark Road from the Bacchus Marsh-Anakie Road. Adequate parking is available near the park's entrance.
