Western Port Bay Trail

The Western Port Bay Trail is a shared-use path for cyclists and pedestrians that stretches along the coastline of Western Port Bay.

It passes through several towns on Melbourne's Mornington Peninsula and is popular among both locals and tourists. The trail begins in Somerville and continues southward, covering approximately 30 km. It offers stunning views of the bay throughout the journey.

Starting in Somerville, the trail follows the Frankston-Flinders Road and makes use of a two-way service road for a short distance. It then crosses Bungower Road and Mornington-Tyabb Road, leading to the town of Tyabb. From Tyabb, the trail passes through Tyabb Central Recreation Reserve and reaches Hastings. In Hastings, it crosses the Long Island branch line and Frankston-Flinders Road.

From Hastings, the trail joins Robertson Street and leads to Marine Parade. It passes through Hastings Foreshore Reserve, including a boardwalk area, and continues to Hastings Jetty and Western Port Marina.

Moving on from Hastings, the trail crosses Stony Point Road in Bittern and runs parallel to South Beach Road. It passes Bittern railway station and crosses Urquhart Crescent. At the intersection of South Beach Road and Disney Street, a branch of the trail splits off and heads towards Morradoo railway station in Crib Point. The trail also reaches Somers, crossing Sandy Point Road and Lord Somers Road before finishing in Balnarring. In Balnarring, there is another branch of the trail that passes through the Coolart Wetlands and Homestead Reserve.

Construction of the Western Port Bay Trail began in 1994, initially connecting Somerville, Tyabb, and Hastings. Over time, the trail was extended to its current length
