Description

Whiteman Park, located just 22 km (14 mi) north of Perth, Western Australia, is a 4,000-hectare (9,900-acre; 15 sq mi) bushland area in the suburb of Whiteman.

It has a rich cultural history and was an important place for the Nyoongar people. The park was purchased by the state government in 1978 to protect the underlying aquifer as a drinking water source. It is a testament to Lew Whiteman's passion for the environment.

Whiteman Park is known for its unique biodiversity, with over 450 endemic plant species and over 120 vertebrate animals, including rare and endangered species. It is home to about 17% of Western Australian bird species, including migratory birds that thrive in the wetlands. Grogan's Swamp, a Conservation Category Wetland, provides a habitat for these birds.

The park offers a range of attractions for visitors of all ages. It has bushwalking trails, bike paths, sports facilities, and playgrounds for outdoor activities. Visitors can also take a 4-kilometre (2.5 mi) journey through the park on an electric tram operated by the Perth Electric Tramway Society. The park is home to Caversham Wildlife Park, where visitors can meet Australia's unique animals. The Bennett Brook Railway, a narrow gauge railway, offers train rides through the park. There are also several museums showcasing the history of transport in Western Australia.

Whiteman Park is an incredible destination that combines ecological diversity and cultural history. It offers something special for everyone, making it a perfect place for a day out with family and friends.
