Description
Willunga Creek Wines is a winery within the McLaren Vale wine region, in South Australia.
Winemaking at Willunga Creek Wines is headed by one of the hottest ‘guns’ around at the moment in Phil Christiansen. Sporting a wealth of experience in dealing with fruit from the McLaren Vale district, Phil is passionate in his belief that the region can produce wines that can stand up to any in the world.
The vineyards are located on the slopes at the base of the Willunga Hill escarpment and are elevated above the rest of the McLaren Vale floor. They do most of the physical work ourselves, but enlist the support of local contractors for the bigger jobs like harvesting.
Cellar Door
The Willunga Creek Wines cellar door is 45 minutes south of Adelaide. They are open every weekend and public holidays from 11am-5pm for wine tastings, platters and authentic curries in winter.
The cellar door was once a shearing shed, known locally as Blackers Shed. From the early 1940s shearers would come far and wide every year to shear their flocks. The last shearing of 1000 sheep was in January 2007. They then set about restoring the shed to make it home to Willunga Creek Wines.
