Description

Wollongong Harbour and Lighthouse is a historical landmark that represents the maritime heritage of New South Wales.

It consists of two lighthouses, the Breakwater Lighthouse and the Flagstaff Hill Lighthouse. The Breakwater Lighthouse has been restored and is now used for decorative purposes, while the Flagstaff Hill Lighthouse is an active beacon.

The Breakwater Lighthouse stands at a height of 12 meters and underwent restoration in 1978 and 1979 to preserve its heritage. It was further revived in 2000 to 2002, and its light was relit during an international lighthouse conference in Sydney. On the other hand, the Flagstaff Hill Lighthouse is an active beacon painted entirely in white, with red lights displayed over shallow water.

Visitors to Wollongong Harbour and Lighthouse can enjoy a leisurely stroll to see both lighthouses and take in the stunning views of the harbor and Pacific Ocean. Nearby, there are also other heritage sites to explore, such as the historic Flagstaff Hill and the Wollongong Head Lighthouse Reserve. Additionally, visitors can have a picnic or dine at a nearby cafe or restaurant.

The lighthouses are accessible all year round, and there is no admission fee. Getting to Wollongong Harbour and Lighthouse is convenient, as it can be reached by car, public transport, or on foot. It is located a short distance away from the Wollongong CBD and can be accessed via various routes, including the Princess Highway and Crown Street. Parking is available at the Wollongong Harbour parking lot
